How to: Clean Make Up Brushes

Happy Monday my little beauties
I hope you all had a great weekend

I don't think some people understand the importance of cleaning their make up brushes
but I really can't stress enough, if you don't already do it PLEASE START!!

If not for the sake of your brushes, because lets face it good make up brushes don't come cheap!
but for the sake of your face!
Brushes that aren't cleaned regularly hold onto grubby little things like:
Dirt, Oil and Dead Skin Cells
These aren't things you would want to rub all over your face every day
but if you don't clean your brushes that is what you are doing!

There is no point in being religious with your skincare routine
If you are going to undo all your hard work by using dirty brushes

So here's an easy and very cheap step by step guide on how to clean your brushes

Step 1

Run your brush under a tap of warm water
make sure the brush hairs are pointing downwards. This will stop any water getting into the handle of the brush

Step 2

Wash your brushes using baby shampoo
You don't have to use much just a couple of drops
Create a foamy lather and make sure you wash through to the middle bristles not just the outside
Make sure you rinse them thoroughly until there is no more lather!
This 500ml bottle of baby shampoo from Morrisons only cost me 9p!!!
(compared to £10.50 for a bottle of MAC brush cleanser)

Step 3

Blot your brushes on some paper towel
make sure they are not out of shape
and lay them flat on some paper towel, or an old towel to dry for 24 hours

Although this is a pretty quick job
its obviously unlikely that you will have time to wash your brushes every day
but make sure you at least clean:
Foundation Brushes - Once a week
Bronzer/Powder Brushes - Once a week
Blusher Brushes - Once a week
Eyeshadow Brushes - Every 2/3 Days
Eyeliner Brushes - After every use

I hope this post has helped
and has encouraged you mucky pups that don't clean your brushes to start doing it!

  2. The thought of what might be in my brushes, encourages me to give them a deep clean once a week and a daily spot clean before I use them!! Xx

  3. I'm obsessed with cleaning my brushes - as you say you spend a fortune on them so spending that to then not clean them seems ridiculous! I have really sensitive skin as well so if I don't keep on top of regularly washing them all I end up with crusty eyelids and rashes, so disgusting!
